It's still New Year's eve in the North and South America, Europe and Africa and the New York City Times Square celebrations are still hours away, but in Australia and many parts of Asia, it is 2012! Happy New Year!

HSBC Bank International's Expat Explorer Survey has released a list of the friendliest countries on the world and Canada is number one! Canada is followed by Bermuda, South Africa, The United States of America and Australia to complete the top five. These top tier friendly nations were the most welcoming and friendly toward expats, easiest to adapt and integrate oneself in the community, learn local language and culturally rich. On the other end of the spectrum, the UK, the Netherlands and India were the unfriendliest. (even though, the UK rank at number eight for friendliest!)

Cruise ships such as Holland America and possibly Carnival are canceling the Mexican Riviera port of call, the Pacific coast city of Mazatlan because of reports of muggings of their passengers and the general drug- fueled violence that unfortunately has been associated with parts of Mexico over the past few years.

The Beach Hotel Garbage is ready to take its first guests in Madrid, Spain. A German has made this small hotel entirely of rubbish, nearly half from European beaches and it's currently the trendiest place in all of Madrid! But, don't call it a dump!
